What are PFAS?
PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are a large group of human-made chemicals that have been used since the 1940s in a wide variety of consumer and industrial products. They are sometimes called “forever chemicals” because they break down very slowly and can accumulate in the environment and in the human body.
Commonly known PFAS include PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic acid) and PFOS (Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid). Exposure to certain PFAS has raised concerns due to potential health and environmental risks, leading to increasing global attention and regulatory action.
